2009 - Hua hin - Pattaya
We set off from Bangkok to Hua Hin, a charming seaside town usually just about 3 hours by car. But this time, we chose the local train instead, which stretched the journey to nearly 5 hours.
It was slower, yes — but also more scenic and laid-back, giving us a glimpse into the everyday rhythm of Thai life. Once we arrived, we kept to our favorite routine: renting a scooter. With it, we could roam freely, uncovering Hua Hin’s hidden gems tucked away beyond the usual tourist spots.
Within the same year, we decided to explore the eastern beaches. While Hua Hin lies south of Bangkok, Pattaya is only about 1.5 hours east by car, making it an easy seaside escape.
To get around, we chose the local way — hopping on the songthaew bus, which is not only convenient but also part of the city’s charm. Pattaya is, of course, famous for its beaches and the lively Walking Street, but one of our most memorable visits was to the breathtaking Sanctuary of Truth Museum. Built entirely out of wood, the intricate carvings and towering structure felt both spiritual and artistic — a unique side of Pattaya beyond the nightlife and sand.
